Hear Her Story

"My experience having doula support during labor with my second child meant the world to me. Though I had really hoped to, I was not able to have the support of a doula during the birth of my first child. That first birthing experience was very difficult for me; I felt unheard and unable to articulate my needs during labor. My second birthing experience was completely different. I was able to labor naturally all through the night, felt informed and supported when I decided to have an epidural placed, and, even when I experienced a cord prolapse that resulted in an emergency cesarean, I felt comforted by the support of my birthing team.

My first birth also resulted in an unplanned cesarean, but it was not as emergent as the cord prolapse. Emotionally, that first birthing experience feels much more traumatic than this second experience, which was far more dangerous. In fact, the word that comes to mind the strongest when I think of the birth of my second child is “redemptive.” This is largely due to the support I found in my doula and my birth team. I believe that the redemptive feelings I have towards this birthing experience have carried into my postpartum period as well. With a better outlook on my experience at the hospital with this child, I have felt much more confident and far less anxious in the time that I have been home with our baby.

In my opinion, both the physical and the emotional benefits to doula support are invaluable. I am very blessed to have had my doula’s support during such a beautiful, yet challenging, milestone in my life."

Another mom said...

"Having a birth doula on my birthing team was an amazing experience. I wanted a natural birth without any medication and with my doula supporting me through labor I was able to accomplish that. With her knowledge, skill and experience she guided me and helped comfort me through labor. I honestly can say I don’t know that I could’ve done it without her. She held my hand, reminded me to breathe and control my breathes through the contractions. She also helped me to utilized different tools to help ease my contractions. Because of my doula I was able to have my dream birth, which I cannot thank her enough for. This being my first birth and having it be such a positive experience is insurmountable. And going forward I plan to use doula services for all my future births as well."

One more testimony:

"For a 1st time mom, I did not know what to expect during my pregnancy, during birth, or after birth. I had no idea what my options were as far as how personalized  I could make my experience. Nature took its course but I was able to feel empowered by being informed and given knowledge in which helped me to finalize decisions for my baby's care."
